How to Unlock and Beat the Titans
The Titans are Monster Train 2's hidden final battle after Seraph. Reaching them is a two-part test: unlock the trials, then carry all three Titan Essences through one run.
Quick answer: how do you fight the Titans?
Unlock the nine original Pyre Hearts, then start a standard run and enable the special Titan trial at Arkion, Cael and Seraph. Win all three challenge fights in that same run to collect three Titan Essences. After you defeat Seraph, the run continues into the Titans fight instead of ending.
1. Unlock the nine base-game Pyre Hearts
The requirement is the original set of nine Pyre Hearts. RailTools currently lists the exact requirement for all 13 Pyre Hearts: one is available by default, nine come from progression objectives, and the final three are rewards for this fight. Completing the ninth progression heart unlocks the “Wait, There's More?” milestone and enables Titan trials in standard runs.
If the trial toggle never appears, check the Pyre Heart library before rebuilding your deck. The usual blocker is progression, not Covenant rank.
2. Win all three Titan trials in one run
Each trial is an optional harder version of a main boss fight. Turning one on and winning awards a Titan Essence. Skipping or losing any trial means the final fight will not trigger that run.
- 1
Arkion, Scion of Savagery
The first Essence check. Keep enough early tempo to accept the harder fight without sacrificing the rest of the run.
- 2
Cael, Lord of the Cherubs
The middle trial. Its variants reward different defensive answers, so inspect the boss before committing your final merchant route.
- 3
Seraph Aeternus
The final Essence check. Seraph's Dominant, Entropic and Savage forms pressure Corruption, card quality and incoming damage differently.
After the third Essence, defeat Seraph normally. The post-battle sequence continues to the Titans automatically.
3. Build for a long, multi-floor fight
A normal run often rewards concentrating everything on one floor. The Titans punish that habit: pressure arrives across the train and the battle lasts long enough for small leaks, dead draws and Pyre damage to compound. Before accepting the final trial, check these five jobs:
- Fast setup. Your first combat floor must function before the deck completes a full cycle. Expensive “eventually” scaling is not a plan by itself.
- Two-floor reach. Movement, room abilities, spells or disposable blockers must influence more than one floor even if the main carry stays together.
- Backline access. Sweep, targeted spells, movement or Decay prevents support enemies from turning chip damage into a lost Pyre.
- Sustain. Armor, Sap, Dazed, healing or repeatable replacement units matter more than one large health number in an attrition fight.
- A clean draw cycle. Purge weak starters and avoid speculative cards; the Entropy pressure is much worse when every added card delays your real answer.
4. Play the Titans as one linked encounter
The three Titans are tied together by Fate Link. Treat their health bars as one encounter, not three independent bosses you can cheese one at a time. Community testing also notes that Lazarus League's Unstable threshold does not bypass the linked finish: the Titans still must reach the encounter's proper end state.
Turn priorities
- Stabilize the floor most likely to leak instead of chasing early boss damage.
- Remove support enemies before adding another layer of scaling to an already safe floor.
- Preserve Pyre Health whenever two plays are otherwise close; there is no recovery room after Seraph.
- Spend consumable answers when they prevent permanent damage — hoarding them for a perfect turn often loses the run.
- Keep scaling after the first Titan reaches its floor; Fate Link makes partial progress less valuable than a board that survives every wave.
For your first clear, Covenant 0 is valid and community reports confirm mutators can be used. Learn the sequence there before adding Covenant modifiers; then compare your clan and champion options in the current tier list and best clan combos.
Common reasons the Titans do not appear
- You unlocked later DLC hearts but still missed one of the nine original Pyre Hearts.
- You forgot to enable a trial before one of the three required boss fights.
- You completed the three trials across different runs instead of the same run.
- You collected only two Titan Essences and then defeated Seraph.
- You were playing a mode that does not follow the standard Titans progression route.
