Quick answer

How champion unlocks and upgrade paths work

Roster progression and run upgrades are separate systems: clan level unlocks the alternate champion permanently, while Light Forges choose and improve that run's path.

1

Unlock champion two at clan level 5

A clan's first champion is available when the clan is. Play runs with that clan to earn XP; at level 5, its second champion becomes selectable. See the complete clan and level-reward guide.

2

Choose one of two offered paths

Every champion has three possible paths. The opening Light Forge presents two at tier I, so the same champion can start a run in a different role.

3

Continue to tier III or flex

Light Forges after the first and second Flying Boss let you advance the chosen path or take an offered tier from another path. Open a champion below for every exact upgrade.

There are 24 champions in the current game: two for each of the 12 clans. Together they have 72 upgrade paths and 216 path tiers.

How do you unlock the second champion for a clan?

Reach clan level 5 by playing runs with that clan. Its first champion is available when the clan unlocks; the alternate champion becomes selectable at level 5.

How do champion upgrade paths work?

The first Light Forge offers two of a champion’s three paths at tier I. Later Light Forges let you continue that path toward tier III or flex into another offered path.

Where can you compare the best champions?

Use the separate Monster Train 2 tier list for community rankings. This page is the complete data reference for champion names, clans, starting stats and path titles.
